OOCL Honored with Gold Standing for Environmental Excellence |
|
OOCL is proud to have received 2014 Hong Kong Awards for Environmental Excellence (HKAEE) Gold Award in the Transport and Logistics Sector category at a ceremony held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre yesterday. Recognized by the community as one of the most prestigious and reputable environmental award schemes in Hong Kong, this is the seventh annual award which saw over a thousand eligible applicants competing in eleven industry sectors. The HKAEE encourages businesses and organizations to embrace green management and innovation with the opportunity to benchmark their environmental performance and commitments towards best practices within their sectors.
In considering OOCL for the gold standing, the Award recognizes a company’s commitment and drive to achieving environmental objectives through the entire organization. This includes initiatives taken to sustain progressive environmental improvements and working with partner organizations to establish synergies to adopting greener business models and operations.
Through years of effort and dedication, OOCL has already exceeded many international requirements and industry standards in the countries where it operates. We have pushed forward many important and successful initiatives that contribute to our commitment to environmental sustainability, including:
1) our investments in the latest state-of-the-art technologies for our new containerships with advanced green features to meet current and future environmental requirements;
2) the implementation of the Global Vessel Voyage Monitoring Centre (GVVMC) developed by our sister company, CargoSmart, to monitor real-time vessel movements so as to enhance fleet performance and fuel efficiency;
3) the adoption of international environmental reporting and disclosure assurance standards to certify our data integrity on vessel emissions; and
4) our proactive engagement with the community through various green projects, such as educating the younger generation about the importance of protecting our environment.
Reflecting on the Gold Award received from the Honorable Mr. C. Y. Leung, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr. Stephen Ng, Director of Trades of OOCL, said: “As a global carrier with our roots deep in Hong Kong, we are a very proud corporate citizen in the community to be acknowledged and recognized for our commitment and efforts to improving the environment in our city. In 2013, OOCL was the first ocean carrier to receive the Gold Award. Taking the gold standing again this year is a huge encouragement to us and we are honored to be standing alongside with the other winners to celebrate our good work and achievements in best practices, sharing the common goal to make Hong Kong a better place to live and work.”
