LNG ferry operator to bring green terminal focus

The Spanish LNG ferry operator Balearia will highlight terminal environmental factors at the GreenPort Cruise and Congress conference in Valencia.

This industry leader, whose operations are based in the Port of Valencia, will feature on the GreenPort Cruise programme for the first time with a talk by fleet manager, Guillermo Almar Borràs on ‘Meeting the demand for LNG and other environmental factors in terminals’.

Reduced emissions

The operator is due to take delivery of its first LNG powered ferries this year, which will operate in the Mediterranean using LNG which to reduce NOx emissions by 85%, CO2 emissions by 30% and eliminate the emission of sulphur and particles.

Besides the dual fuel and LNG engines, they will be equipped with photovoltaic panels, LED lighting and trim control, among other features.

With these new ships, terminals will need to be modified – a key focus of this session and part of the work Balearia is currently developing in conjunction with its new vessels.

Balearia is one of many operators, port, terminal operators and non-governmental organisations speaking at GreenPort Cruise in Valencia next month.

There is still time to book to attend the conference as a delegate or exhibitor.
