The overall security policy regarding ships and crews will analyze through his speech Dimitris Maniatis- Franman SA - BDM Defence and Security, Aspida maritime Security - Special Projects Advisor. In the open lecture on «Maritime Security: past, present and future» organized by Mediterranean College and its Business School on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 18.00-20.00, in the College's premises in Athens. An important lecture within the XINIS EDUCATION FESTIVAL '15 events. In his presentation Mr. Maniatis will focus on security threats to the crews and vessels in the Gulf of Guinea and the eastern Mediterranean. He will analyze also the geopolitical conditions affecting the marine crime and maritime terrorism. Finally, the idea of a "path" (footpath) to reduce risk through the creation of "pockets of security" will be presented. The basic idea behind this approach, is that physical security is the last line of defense and that important elements of a comprehensive security policy for ships and crews are access and information. XINIS Educational Group, the largest private educational institution in our country, organizes for the 7th consecutive year, the largest and most innovative educational European festival «Xinis Education Festival 2015». The ReCAAP ISC together with BIMCO, INTERTANKO, and S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies (RSIS) will be organizing the ReCAAP ISC Piracy and Sea Robbery Conference 2015 on 23 April 2015 (1330 – 1700 hrs) during the Singapore Maritime Week at the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. The theme of the Conference is “Piracy and Sea Robbery: Separating Fact from Fiction”. The Conference will feature two scenario‐based panel discussions using case studies based on real incidents occurred in Asia. Distinguished speakers representing the shipping industry, IMO, enforcement agencies and relevant governmental agencies are invited to speak about their roles, expectations and challenges in each scenario. This Conference encourages interactive dialogues and sharing between the panelists and audience; in hearing each other’s views, challenges and sharing good practices and lessons learned. Attendance is by invitation only, and invitees are from ReCAAP Focal Points, shipping companies, shipping associations, governmental agencies and research institutes.
